Les Castels is a group of 25 camping sites throughout France that have long set the gold standard as far as four- and five-star self-catering accommodation and camping are concerned, offering a slice of real Gallic life.
For more than 60 years, Les Castels has merited its reputation as offering convivial sites which offer fun and entertainment as well as a natural authenticity that promotes local history and inheritance. The sites are all independently owned and the passion of the proprietors for their region and all it has to offer is evident. This ensures that there are always a number of ways available to enjoy local experiences that will result in fond memories long after the holiday is over.
NEW for 2021 is a fabulous addition to the family, the Whaka Lodge – a four-star site near Auch, south-western France. Whaka features three lakes for swimming, fishing and water sports, glamping Dreamlodge accommodation and a friendly tapas/wine bar.
NEW this year is the addition on all sites of the ‘Castels Suite’ – private sanitary blocks near or on the pitches – a welcome addition, particularly relevant in the current climate.
After the success over the last few years of the Castels Premium product – (even more spacious pitches with garden furniture, sun loungers and a barbecue as standard) – the NEW ‘Castels Premium Suites’ has been introduced for 2021 – a merger of the Premium and Suite facilities together.
Parc de Fierbois
Importantly, as we are looking for wide-open spaces this year, it is good to know that it has been verified that Les Castels pitches are at least 15% larger than anything similar. SPACE is a luxury that is very much sought after. Some of the treehouses on several sites are perched 20 metres high in ancient trees, offering a ‘micro-adventure’ in symbiosis with nature. This is very comforting – especially for first timers trying camping as a safer option in 2021 – breathing fresh air and with room to enjoy the holiday with family and friends. NEW glamping Safari tents on some sites make this an even more appealing option.
Les Criques de Porteils
NEW for 2021 (as of 6th May) is the interactive map of France on the revamped website, which enables an easy search of the geographical location of the sites and what is on offer on each one; a quick easy look at Les Castels 2021.
The choice of holiday destinations is breath-taking – from the rolling hills of the Normandy countryside to the Breton coast, from the riverside to the seaside, from the south of France to the Atlantic …. Parklands, farmlands, forests, every type of country environment is on offer, often sites surround chateaux, manors, stately homes, and so on. There is so much choice: variety is the name of the game.
Even better this year for the first time, your holiday costs are fully refundable if booked before the end of June 2021. This is important of course this year as the situation is rather changeable! Conditions of this are if the borders are closed due to Covid or if there is a local or national lockdown reintroduced.
Les Castels stands apart. They are not cookie cutter campsites belonging to a large anonymous group but rather offer a more personalised and friendly service. Each guest is shown to their pitch or accommodation by a staff member making sure that any requests have been fulfilled and it is these little things, the attention to detail, that makes the difference.
As each site is different, the various owners offer their clients all manner of different experiences generally based on local culture, cuisine and are carefully selected to provide an unforgettable holiday extra. Everything from wine tasting to heritage tours, cookery lessons to musical soirées are offered. Whatever your preference – fishing, water sports, golf, walking, rock-climbing, hiking – there is a Les Castels site to suit all tastes and requirements.
